South Bay Artist Collective

 

The South Bay Artist Collective is looking for artistic high schoolers to help our with our After School Art Program! We are a non-profit located in Hermosa Beach with a mission to support and grow the local visual arts community by creating a destination for art and creativity, while teaching and inspiring youth. 
 
During the school year our youth classes run 4pm-5:30pm but volunteers are needed from 3:45-5:45 to help set-up, teach, and clean up classes. Our program also runs through the summer and needs volunteers to help run classes through the day. If you want to spend your summer making a difference, come join us!

Career Development Workshops

High school and college age individuals are in a critical time of their lives when they are facing challenges such as establishing their identity and making important life transitions.  Attending programs such as Find Your Path 2019 help to enhance their ability to adapt to change and stressful situations, become involved in purposeful activities, and connect with positive peers and adults.  It also helps to build knowledge about high-risk behaviors and their consequences.
 
 
The workshops (enrollment is limited) are being held at the Beach Cities Health District lower level meeting rooms on 514 North Prospect Avenue, Redondo Beach CA  90277.
This is part of a community engagement project funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health to promote a holistic model of services focused on positive youth development.  As part of this project, I would also be interested in engaging in discussions with you about the needs of youth around these topics.  Please feel free to contact me with questions and ideas about this project.

STAFF Positions - Paid

Camp Staff - Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and commit to working 40 hours a week, with a weekday availability from 6:45am - 6:00pm.

Adventure Staff - Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and commit to working up to 20 hours a week, with the availability to work weekdays, weekends and evenings as needed.

VOLUNTEER Positions-Not Paid

Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older and commit to two shifts per week.  Monday - Friday; 10:00am - 1:00pm, or 1:00 - 4:00pm

MB Mayor's Youth Council: 2021-2022

MB Mayor's Youth Council will soon be recruiting high school students for next year's program, which begins in September and runs through April 2022.

Mayor's Youth Council is an exciting program that brings together high school students and professional leaders to explore leadership, careers, and civic engagement. Selected students will meet monthly and have the opportunity to meet and dialogue with leaders in numerous industries, government, arts and more!  The students will also participate in a City-sponsored event. This group of students have also been running the TEDx Salon event at Mira Costa. This program is now entering its 7th year and we have grown the program to 40 students.  

We are looking for candidates who are willing to make the time commitment, step outside their comfort zone, participate in our workshops and have fun! 

 

Criteria to Apply:

1.     Student must be a resident of Manhattan Beach or attend Mira Costa High School

2.     The program is open to students who will enter the 2021-2022 school year this Fall as a Sophomore, Junior and or Senior

3.     Students are only allowed to miss one meeting to remain in good standing and are expected to commit to the following dates if accepted: TBA

4.     There is a $150 registration fee which helps cover dinner and supplies for each workshop.

 

On April 1st, 2021 at 6:00am, applications will be available on the website  http://mb-myc.com and will remain open until 100 applications are received

MBUSD Medical Advisory Board -  Student Members Needed!

MBUSD Medical Advisory Board Hist

-The Manhattan Beach Unified School District Medical Advisory Board is a unique committee of South Bay medical professionals who work together to promote mutual respect and interaction between the Manhattan Beach Unified School District and the health care community. 

-This committee is comprised of approximately thirty physicians and other health service professionals who represent a broad range of specialties.

-This distinguished body meets three times a year with school and district administrators, district nurses, the superintendent, and members of the MBUSD Board of Trustees to review current medical challenges as they pertain to the education, physical and mental well-being of all students in the district, preschool through grade twelve.

Youth Medical Advisory Board members will:

-Offer recommendations on youth health issues
-Provide feedback and input on Medical Advisory Board meeting topics
-Serve as ambassadors and leaders of health

MBUSD Students currently in Grades 10th and 11th are eligible to apply. 

 

Medical Advisory Board meetings will be held at the Manhattan Beach Unified School District Office located at 325 S. Peck Ave, Manhattan Beach from 7:00pm-9:00pm three times a year.
